Greetings,
It seems that winter has finally released its grip. We have a blooming plumb tree and Tracy's perennials are starting to pop up. Plus I've been working in the yard doing projects and stuff. So spring, obviously.

2020 trips with Cliff Zenor
In 2020 I’m teaming up with my old friend Cliff Zenor. I’m really looking forward to these trips; Cliff is a joy to work with and a wonderful teacher.
We’ve got four trips planned:
Death Valley is one of the most graphic landscapes I’ve ever been in. It’s right up there with the Palouse, but….different. Different colors, different shapes, completely different environment.
We’ve planned this trip in late February of 2020 for the new moon (night photography) and perhaps, if we’re lucky and have been living virtuous lives, a flower bloom. Flowers are harder to predict and good blooms don’t always happen, so if we get flowers, that will just be icing on the cake.
Bandon arguably has the best collection of photogenic sea stack on the west coast, and they’ll be right across the street from where we plan on staying.
And there’s more in the Bandon area: the gardens of Shore Acres State Park, three lighthouses, crashing waves, and a working harbor, not to mention the town of Bandon itself!
The Palouse is a perennial favorite of mine with its rolling hills, old trucks, amazing light, barns, and more.
Zion is probably my second favorite park in the country. We’ll be visiting at the end of October, prime time for fall color. Fall color and red rocks. Hard to beat. More information is coming on Zion.
Registration is now open for Death Valley, Bandon, and Palouse. The Palouse dates are not set yet but we’re still taking deposits. If you sign up and the dates we get don’t work for you, I’ll happily issue a refund.
I’m pretty sure about the Bandon dates, but I am still awaiting a response from the hotel.
If you're interested in Zion, let me know and I'll add you to an early notify list.

Moving Lightroom to a new computer
Victoria Bampton, aka The Lightroom Queen, has published a free new ebook, “Lightroom, Moving to a New Computer.”
Go to The Lightroom Queen website and create an account. You’ll then have access to all her free downloads.
And if you don’t have her invaluable Lightroom Missing FAQ book…why?? It’s my go-to book to answer my own Lightroom questions.
You can get it here (affiliate link).

This year’s workshops

There are still a few spaces remaining in next month’s Olympic National Park workshop and still time to sign up. If you even think you might be interested, let me know so I can forward hotel information to you before the blocked rooms are released.
There is also space available in this June’s Palouse workshop. As with Olympic, we’re getting close to the hotel cutoff (April 15 for Palouse, after which rooms may not be available).
The Colorado Mountains and flowers workshop still has room as well. I’m co-leading that one with Don Mammoser. Jump on over to Don's site for all the info.
And I’ve got a couple of autumn tours going: Silver Falls State Park in Oregon and Autumn in the Palouse. Visit my Workshops Site for all the details.

Winter has come (and gone) and the new wall is now standing.
Ok, lame Game of Thrones reference.

Long time readers may remember our backyard makeover from three years ago. During that makeover, we had a really long wall built in the backyard. Well, the landscape designer overestimated the number of landscape blocks we needed and we had a lot of leftovers. Which I just put to good use by replacing the retaining wall in our front yard with the remaining blocks.
And I still have leftovers. So there will be an other project. Oh yes. There will be.
Speaking of projects, my brother has a major project going on. They bought some property relatively near us (about 25 minutes away) and they’re in the process of having a house built. So yesterday, Bailey and I went out to help them pour the cement base of the well pump house. It was fun! Well, a little bit of hard work and a lot of good hanging out time.
He’ll be building the well house soon and I’ll probably get to help out with that too! So I’ve got projects and project-helping-out just sprouting up all over the place! It is spring after all.

The unexpected

And finally:
Sometimes a favorite image just sneaks up on you.
Seeing as how it's spring and the start of my workshop season, it seems fitting to revisit what turned out to be one of my favorite all-time images. I'm glad I didn't let my preconceptions have their way with me the evening this image was made.
You can read more about this image and how it came to be on my blog.
