Greetings,
I’ve finished my final (for now) house project. Bold words, I know, but I’ve just finished painting our bedroom and adding a classy board and batten feature to one wall. This may be the last major project for a while (until Tracy reads this, anyway) and I can get to the task of culling and captioning this year’s images, updating my website, and perhaps even cleaning my office. Now there’s a daring project!

Aurora tour sold out!

That happened fast.
The aurora borealis is possibly the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen in my life and I’ve been fortunate to see some amazing displays during each of the last five visits I’ve made to Yellowknife; the auroras are addicting.
The tour just sold out (as I was writing this newsletter in fact) and as I've previously noted, if it did sell out, I have the opportunity to add a second tour.
So if you're still interested in photographing auroras, reply to this email and I'll put you on the list for a second trip.
In the mean time, you can take a look at the current Aurora Tour Page for more information. And I'll get to work on adding second tour page.

Favorite images of 2018
I’ve posted a few of my favorite images of 2018 from trips to the Palouse, Silver Falls, Olympic, Iceland, and Yellowknife. I did, however, omit the gems from the epic kitchen remodel. Sorry.
Take a look on my blog at some of my 2018 favorites.
The Palouse in autumn might have been my favorite only because it was such a pleasant surprise. I’m really looking forward to next year’s autumn trip. You should join me.

Palouse Summer & Fall special

I’ve scheduled two trips to the Palouse next year and I’m offering a discount to those wanting to take both trips: Signup for both and save a total of $400!
You’ll be amazed at the difference between the two seasons; both offer great photo opportunities but with totally different color palettes. And the fall trip has one distinct advantage: Sunrise is at about 7:15 a.m. and sunset at around 6 p.m. You’ll appreciate that after having to leave at 4:15 in the morning during the summer trip.
Rolling Hills of the Palouse: June 12-16, 2019
Palouse in the autumn: October 20-24, 2019

Colorado July 2019

Don Mammoser and I are going back to Ouray, CO for a wildflower and mountain landscapes workshop. The workshop includes a day-long jeep trip up and over some high passes and into some great wildflower areas. We’ll probably be visiting an old ghost town as well. If you like wildflowers and mountains, this is the trip for you. The date it July 16 – 21, 2019. For more on this workshop, visit the workshop page on Don’s website.

Nightscapes and Timelapses
If you’re intrigued by night photography and perhaps even night time-lapse photography, NightScapes and TimeLapses by Alan Dyer is an in-depth book that covers just about everything you need to know. It starts with some absolute basics, perhaps too basic for most readers of this newsletter, but it has plenty for even advanced photographers.
The book covers planning, shooting, and processing both nighttime stills and time-lapse sequences and is jam packed full of equipment and software recommendations and demonstrations.
It comes in two versions: an iBook version and a PDF version. The iBook version has the advantage of videos embedded in the book. The PDF version has links to those videos.
I have no affiliation with Mr. Dyer, just passing on something I found to interesting and valuable.

See you in 2019!

You’d never know it by this picture of me and Bailey, but she is really not happy. Here we are in an exam room at her vet’s office waiting to get her ears checked. (just a little infection, she’s all good now). But she was happy enough when we left, about as happy as she looks in the picture above.
That's it for 2018. Thanks for coming along for the ride and I'll see you in 2019!
Happy holidays every one!
