Palouse workshop report

Well it was another great time in the Palouse. This year saw a TON of canola. Usually I scout around for it and then we photograph the few fields we can find. This year, we had our pick and drove past several fields just because there was so much to choose from.
We also visited a new location (for me) this year: Dave’s Old Truck Rescue in Sprague. This is a great location with lots of trucks and lots of room to roam. If you’re a fan of abstract colors and shapes, you’d love getting close to these trucks. If you’re a fan of old trucks, you’ll be in heaven. Read the full report on my blog.
Next year’s trip is slated for June 12-16. More details forthcoming, but if you want to go, send me an email and I’ll put you on the list and notify you when the trip is posted, probably in the next week or so.

Iceland

There is still time to get in on this year’s Iceland tour. This trip features fall color, waterfalls, black sand beaches, glacial lagoons, and, if the weather cooperates: auroras.
And our guides know Iceland, they live there. They know the locations, the light, and the best times. This should be an incredible trip. Won’t you join us Sept. 25 – Oct. 5 in Iceland?

Palouse and Silver Falls in the autumn

Looks like I might have to retool my fall plans. Since interest this year in my Zion trip is low, I may be adding a couple of more photo tours.
One would be a fall color trip to Silver Falls State Park. See this blog post to see what it's like.
This would likely be a three-day weekend trip, meeting on a Thursday night and photographing Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning
The other would be an autumn exploratory trip to the Palouse in anticipation of offering workshops there in the fall. This would likely be a Wednesday or Thursday night to Sunday morning trip.
Tentative dates are October 18-21 for Silver Falls and October 24-28 for Palouse with details and prices pending.
If you had the time, you could come out for Silver Falls, then head to the Oregon Coast for a couple of days, then move on to the Palouse.
Let me know if either of these trips are of interest and I’ll start putting things together.

Remodel update
I know that this is the reason most of you continue to subscribe: the epic tales of home improvement projects.
In this episode we are nearing the end. But it’s always those last details that seem to take the most time.
This is the current state of the kitchen: all cabinets and the island are in place. The refrigerator and stove are in place. We’ll put in the dishwasher and trash compactor after the floors have been refinished.
The new windows and doors have been painted and/or finished.
What still needs to be done is floor finishing, ceiling and wall painting, and backsplash tiling. I also need to line the walls of our new pantry with shiplap and then build some shelves and install the barn door hardware and door. The windows and door also will need to be trimmed out and the final trim around the cabinets installed. And I’ll need to add new baseboards in places.
Oh, and I still need to install under-cabinet lighting. All in good time. And then finally Bailey won’t have to live in a construction zone and she can go back to her normal doggy life.

It's flower season
And therefore a good time to brush up on your close up skills. I've got a couple of articles that might help you out.
First thing you need to do is to be able to get close to your subject. Here are some tips.
The next thing is getting quality images and that depends a whole lot on your technique. See this article for more.
