Greetings,
I hope your June has started out well. I'm not so sure about mine. It was only two short months ago that I had visions of a World Series dancing before my eyes. My long-loved and often hapless Seattle Mariners looked like they had a good chance to get into post- season.
I'm over that now. There's still a chance, but boy it's been tough.
You want to know how well the Mariners have been playing lately? I can't wait for the Seahawks to start again, that's how well.
On to more pleasant things...

New book on Night Photography
I recently got a review copy of Grant Collier's Night Photography in the Great Outdoors. I'll just say this here, and then you can go read my review: I learned quite a bit from this book, and that doesn't usually happen when I read photo technique books. I already have two other books on night photography, and I picked up some very valuable tips from Grant's book. More importantly, it gave me ideas and a desire to stay up late and photograph the stars. Plus the images are inspiring.
You can read my full review here.
If you ever wanted to try night photography, this is a good place to start. And if you want to go shoot auroras, you should definitely learn a bit about night photography too.

Northern Lights tour
Nice segue, huh?
There are still four spaces remaining in this September's Aurora photo tour in Yellowknife (in the magical land of Canada) with me and Victoria Dye.
If you happen to pick up Grant's book (mentioned above), you'll see he's got several images from the Yellowknife area. All spectacular. And you can get images similar to his (and mine and Victoria's too, for that matter) by coming along with us.

A visual guide to a TTG page

As long-time readers know, I'm rather evangelical when it comes to the Lightroom Web Module plug-ins made by The Turning Gate (my website was built using them). If any of you out there have been using these plug-ins and are a little confused, I've created a visual guide to all the areas of a TTG generated page. You can use this guide to match up areas on a page to the sections in the plug-in that control them.
You can read the guide on my TTG-TIPS site here.
And if you are using TTG, did you know there's now a Facebook Users' Group? Check that out here.

Last call for Olympic

This is that last call for this year's Olympic National Park workshop. I'll need at least three or four people to sign up in the next two or three days (by June 10th) otherwise the unthinkable will happen: I'll have to cancel, for the first time in forever, my Olympic workshop.
This will force me to get up really, really early on probably more than one morning next month (and probably drag someone, who knows who he is, with me) to go photograph on my own. I've never not gone up there at least once a year for the last…30-some….years. So I'll have to go.
I'm pretty sure this means that I'll finally get those "fantasy" shots that I've had in my mind's eye for years now. Too bad y'all are gonna miss out on it.
( For the record, this is the first time I've ever used the term - or is it a word? - y'all )

Loose ends
To any who are wondering, I'm still working on an outline for a website creation workshop that I mentioned in the April Newsletter. It's percolating....
There's still room in Oregon Coast workshop coming up at the end of July. But time is running out and the cutoff date for the hotel is approaching. I do have enough people signed up to make the workshops a go, so it's going to happen, with or without you. I'd rather it was with. Just sayin'.
And for no particular reason, here's Bailey. With a ball. Just try to take it away from her. I dare ya!
Oh, and she nearly touched a squirrel the other day. She was pretty happy with herself.
