Greetings,
This is going to be short. Last week we had about 10 trees taken down on our property so I've been dealing with a lot of the fall out (get it, fall out?) from that. Just yard clean up stuff mostly.
So I've not had much time to come up with witty and informative…stuff. See, I've not even had time to come up with a better word than "stuff."

Changes to Olympic National Park workshop

I've made a few changes to my Olympic National Park workshop coming up this July (the best time to go for wildflowers). Originally this was to be a two part workshop with Lightroom instruction being part two. But since there's been no interest in that I've dropped that portion.
And I've also changed the participant limit from 12 to 6. But the price has remained the same. So for the same price you get a smaller group and more one-on-one instruction time.
Jump on over to my Olympic workshop page for all the details.
We are approaching the cutoff date for our hotel in Forks so if you are even just considering taking this workshop, let me know and I'll pass on the hotel information. You can then make a hotel reservation and know that you'll have a place to sleep if you decide to join me for this trip.

Syncing Lightroom to Dropbox
Did you know you can set up Lightroom to add images to your catalog via Dropbox? This is really cool and comes in especially handy if you want to add your iPhone pictures to your Lightroom catalog without having to connect the phone to your computer.
With Lightroom set up to sync from Dropbox, these pictures will then be automatically added to your catalog and downloaded onto your computer.
You'll need a free or paid Dropbox account as well as one of the Dropbox related apps on your phone.
Check out this video on how to do it.

Still room in Palouse and Oregon Coast workshops

There are still some spaces available in my Palouse workshops. But you'll need to act fast as the cutoff date for this hotel is approaching as well. After that date, any unclaimed rooms will be returned to general availability. And they'll then be gobbled up very fast since June is the busiest time for this hotel (very popular with the camera toting crowd) and it's always sold out during this time of year.
Likewise, we still have room in the Oregon Coast workshop coming up at the end of July. Lighthouses. Crashing waves. Harbors. Nets and stuff. Puffins. Fun.

Lightroom 6/CC is here
I finally decided to jump into the CC waters and am now subscribed to Adobe's Photographer plan. For $9.99/ mo. I have access to both the latest Lightroom and Photoshop. I figure that in the long run, as long as the price doesn't get too stupid, this is probably more economical than upgrading Lightroom and Photoshop every two years under the old, numbered, release scheme. And I get the latest and greatest. Not that I take advantage of all the wiz-bang goodies that Photoshop contains. But at least I can if I so choose.
There's not a whole lot new in Lightroom that excites me. Performance is supposed to be better, and I'm guessing it will be if I upgrade to a new video card, which I may just do.
But it does now have face recognition, which I imagine is very useful for wedding and event photographers. For nature/landscape photographers, there are a couple of new and noteworthy features: Merge to HDR and Merge to Panorama. Both result in a new DNG file that you can then process like an original image.
The Panorama feature works great. The HDR feature works fine too. In fact, it seems to give a pretty natural looking result, which you can then take to the Develop Module and fine tune. But if you're a fan of the hyper-real looking HDR images, then you're better off sticking to NIK/Google HDR Efex Pro or Photomatix.
Here's a full rundown of the new features from Victoria Bampton, aka The Lightroom Queen.

Off to Oregon
That's it. See, I didn't have a lot.
I'm off to Oregon tomorrow for my first workshop of the year. I'll be able to check email during parts of the day so if you write back about any of my workshops, I'll be able to answer you. It just might not be as quickly as I normally do.
