News from Rod Barbee Photography December, 2014

Greetings,

Happy Holidays everyone. I've got a couple of new trips to announce below. I can also announce that for all practical purposes, the bathroom remodel is done. I mean in practical terms. That is, it works just like a bathroom should. There are still a few teeny, tiny trim issues to deal with. But all the hard work (I'm still suffering from Tiler's elbow) is done and done.

2015 Northern Lights Photo Tour

The 2015 trip to photograph Auroras in Yellowknife that Victoria Dye and I are leading is now open for registration.
Photographing the auroras last September was the most exhilarating photography experience I've had in my 23+ years of photographing nature. It's an amazing experience that resulted in amazing images.
In addition to the auroras, we'll be photographing fall color, lakesides, waterfalls, Old Town Yellowknife, and maybe even some wildlife if we're lucky.

This trip is limited to 12 and is already a third of the way filled. We anticipate this trip selling out so don't miss out. Visit our Aurora tour page to see some images, get more info, and to sign up.

This was an amazing trip last September and we plan on it being even better next year.

Triple "D" Utah in April

Cougar kittenNext April I'll be leading a wildlife photography workshop in Utah with the Triple "D" Game Farm.

When you think of capturing stunning wildlife images do you think of long lenses, expensive travel, and hours and hours of waiting? It doesn't have to be this way. And in fact, most professional photographers in need of, say, a picture of a bobcat kitten, won't get that shot in the wild. One reason is that it's really hard to find. The other reason is that it's harmful to the animals and possibly the photographer. Nearly all pictures you see of a bobcat or cougar kitten are taken at wildlife model shoots.

This trip will feature mountain lions, bobcats, bear, wolves, coyote, and more. All against a backdrop of red rock county. And of course, the classic shot of a leaping mountain lion with Zion National Park in the background.

Those of you who've been around the Newsletter for awhile know that I've led a number of Triple "D" workshops. So I've got plenty of experience working with Triple "D". I'll be there to offer suggestions on composition, technique, and settings. I know you'll come away with some spectacular images.

The workshop runs April 13-16 includes eight guaranteed photo sessions over three days (14th, 15th, 16th) with the option to participate in additional sessions. There's also an optional Birds of Prey session on April 17th.
On top of that, we'll find time to gather and review images to see what worked, what didn't, and what can be done to improve. More details here.

The cost for the April 13-16 workshop is $1899 ($1850 if paying by check). The cost for the Birds of Prey session is $359 (discount if paying by check).
But for a limited time, I'm offering this workshop for $1850 ($1795 if paying by check).
Go to this URL and use the password zionlion to access the page.

We'll be based out of Hurricane, UT, just a half-hour from the entrance of Zion National Park. With that in mind, I'll also be offering some landscape photography add-on sessions after the Triple "D" workshop. Be sure to let me know if this is something you'd be interested in.

Workshops make great gifts!

tripod agains sunset colorsWorkshops make a great gift either to yourself or to a loved one. If you'd like to gift a workshop you can either use my sign up page and pay using PayPal and then email me with the name of the person to whom you're giving such a generous, thoughtful, and amazing gift. Or you can sign up via regular mail and just include the name and contact information for the person who is so incredibly lucky to have you in their life.
Might I suggest an Olympic National Park workshop? Olympic is just about my favorite workshop, seeing as how it's practically in my backyard. I've been visiting Olympic regularly for over 30 years and it's one of the places I know best.
