Greetings Earthlings
I've always wanted to do that. Now I've gotten it out of my system.
So you know how when you wash your car it usually rains the next day? Guess what happens when you give your dog a bath? She decides to find the stinkiest, nastiest, deadest, most disgusting thing to roll in.
Thanks Bailey.
Columbia River Gorge trip report

A couple of weeks ago I led a small group of photographers to the waterfalls of the Columbia River Gorge. What a great trip this was. We had nearly perfect waterfall weather. And my nearly perfect I mean it didn't rain all the time. In fact, it rained just enough and we had ample opportunities to photograph the waterfalls with out too much water falling on us.
I'm already planning next year's trip. It's going to be limited to only five or six people and will be in mid-May again. I'm aiming for May 14-18. You can read all about last month's trip and the early details of next year's trip on my blog.
Looking at 2014

Don Mammoser and I have been looking ahead, coming up with some different trips we can do together. One of them isn't really a different trip for either of us, but it's one we've never done together: Olympic National Park.
You probably know that Olympic is pretty much in my back yard. And I've been leading trips there for over ten years. Don, on the other hand, lives in the middle of the country. But he's led plenty of trips to Olympic as well.
One reason I'm excited about this trip is that Don has taken people to places I haven't normally gone and I take people to places Don's never gone. So this trip is likely to have quite a bit of variety to it.
We're planning on basing it out of Forks and Port Angeles so that we can spend some quality time on the coast as well as get up into the high country for wildflowers, mountains, and cute fawns. The dates are July 15-20, 2014.

Another trip we have planned is the Grand Tetons in June 2014. This is when all the wildflowers are in bloom and should be an excellent opportunity to photograph the mountains with wildflowers and mountains with reflections and mountains with mountains. The dates are right around June 18-22, but we still need to firm that up. We're also planning a repeat of Colorado wildflowers for July 8-12 2014. It's sold out for this year so we'll do it again.
Details and pricing for these trips are pending, just wanted to give you a heads up.
If you feel you'll have any interest in any of these trips, send me an email and I'll put you on the list. Or feel free to send a $200 deposit to hold a spot.

TTG CE3 Stage now available

The Turning Gate (TTG) has just released its CE3 version of the versatile Stage Lightroom Web Module plug-in. This is probably my favorite plug-in from TTG because it can do so much. I use it for my lessons pages as well as generic informational pages and also as product pages to sell my books. You can read more about it at my blog.

And remember, if you decide you want to create and manage your own website from within Lightroom using The Turning Gate plug-ins, I'm pretty much an expert at using them and would be happy to answer questions. Heck, I might even be talked into being hired to create an entire website template for you if you don't want to bother with all the design aspects. I can even add a few extra touches with some custom css.

Canadian Rockies

The Canadian Rockies might just be my favorite autumn location. Granted I've not yet been to Michigan or the far north of Canada yet for fall color. Or Patagonia. Or New Hampshire. But of all the places I have been, the Canadian Rockies ranks right at the top. And it's not really for the color, though that can be nice. The mountain and lake scenery is astounding. And in the fall the weather is perfect: crisp mornings, comfortable daytime temperatures, and sunrises that don't come stupidly early. You gotta love that.
This September (17-22) Don Mammoser and I are leading a trip to the Canadian Rockies.
You should join us.
Distant Early Warning

I'm in discussions with a collaborator on some possible trips to Canada for next year. These include trips to Tofino with lots of scenery and wildlife, Bald Eagles of British Columbia, and the one that intrigues me the most, the Northwest Territories.
The Northwest Territories trip will feature brilliant fall color and a good chance of seeing bear and moose along with migrating birds, owls, tundra swans, falcons, and more. This will also be a prime time to see and photograph the Northern Lights. So you can see why I'm excited by the possibilities of this trip.
I'll have more information in the coming weeks, but if this sounds as exciting to you as it does to me, drop me a line and I'll put you on my "first to know" list.
About a Photograph

Think Tank has launched a new video series called "About a Photograph" featuring photographers telling the stories behind an image. You'll also find tips on things like the best way to manage your gear at the airport. Check it out
Just two spaces remaining in Olympic workshop

Yep, just two spaces remaining. We'll be photographing mountain scenes, fields of flowers, most likely little tiny super cute fawns, waterfalls, Lake Crescent, a lavender farm (!), Ocean beaches, ethereal fog scenes, forests, streams, trees, and probably more. Yes! There's even the elusive "more" to photograph.
But there are only two spaces left. Just. Two.

And there is still space in both Palouse workshops. Part one begins in little over a week. And finding a hotel might be problematic. But if you're interested in joining us, let me know and I'll help to steer you toward some lodging possibilities.

I think that's all I've got for now. Keep your eyes peeled for the new Lightroom 5. It could be here any day now. Any day.
