Greetings
So guess what? I saw a couple of snow flakes falling
today. Now those of you in the east are probably
rolling your eyes about now, but we havent had any
snow around here all winter, at least at sea level we
havent. The Olympics and Cascades have been
getting it every time it rains down here.
But for the most part, its been getting pretty springy
lately. Flowers are popping up, trees are budding,
there are more birds at the feeders, and the lawn
needs mowing. Spring time also means my wife is
coming up with more clever ideas for the yard. Im
still sore from the idea she had last weekend.

Adding your copyright information to your pictures |
|
|
|
|
As part of downloading my images from the camera,
my name, copyright, and contact information, along
with a basic rights statement, is added to the images
metadata. Most downloading programs, whether
stand alones like Downloader Pro and
ImageIngesterPro or downloaders that are included
within other programs like Bridge, Lightroom, or
IDimager,
can automatically add whatever metadata
you want during the downloading process. I highly
recommend taking advantage of these features.
You can also add this information to your images in
Photoshop or Bridge using File Info or the Bridge
Metadata tab by either simply typing the information
into the proper field (really time consuming) or by
creating a metadata template and applying the
information to a group of images all at once with a
couple of clicks.
Heres an article I came across with a quick
and easy way of automatically adding your copyright
information to any image you open or any new
document you create in Photoshop. That link goes
to part two of a three part tutorial on adding your
copyright to your image. If youve never created a
metadata template or added this basic information to
your images, this tutorial is a worthy read.

Arches and Canyonlands |
|
|
|
|
Don and I still have a few spaces remaining in our
Arches/Canyonlands National Parks trip this April 18-
22. These two parks represent a very target rich
environment for the landscape photographer: the light,
the shapes, the colors, these parks have it all. And
Don and I will be there to help you get images youll
be truly proud to show off.

Yosemite in the Spring |
|
|
|
|
Yosemite, the park made famous by Ansel Adams, is
a place for classic western landscapes as well as
intimate studies of bark patterns, or waterfall details,
or dogwood blossom portraits. There is still plenty
of room in this workshop Im leading for
Photographers Alliance Workshops. And remember if
you sign up for any PAW workshop before June 1st
you can get $100 off of this or any PAW workshop that
is normally under $1000 by clicking here and using the coupon.
And if you do sign up for this or any other PAW
workshop, whether its with me or another leader, be
sure to mention my name in the Heard about section
of the online registration form (Im supposed to get
Hersheys Kisses or something out of the deal)

I'm Teaching Locally |
|
|
|
|
For those of you in the Kitsap peninsula area, Ill be
teaching a short course at Olympic College titled
"The
Art of Nature Photography." This is an introductory
course on the basics of outdoor and nature
photography. Ill cover things like camera controls,
exposure, equipment and technique. Ive also created
a webpage with more details on what the course
entails and how to sign up. If you know any budding
young (or not so young) nature photographers, let
them know about the course.

Waterfalls, waterfalls, waterfalls |
|
|
|
|
And I still have a couple of openings for my Semi
Private photo tour of the waterfalls of Oregon's Columbia Gorge
and Silver Falls State Park. If you like waterfalls,
you'll get your fill of them here. Both the Columbia
Gorge and Silver Falls boast big, beautiful waterfalls
with relatively easy acces. There is hiking involved but
it's not strenuous for someone of average fitness level.

Wine country of Oregon |
|
|
|
|
And finally, Dick Badger and I will soon be planning
our third annual tour of the Wineries of Oregon's
Willamette Valley. The tentative date is Oct. 18-22.
Along with visiting and photographing the
wineries, we also manage to visit some of the fine
dining establishment to be found in the area.
So if this is something you might be intersted in, shoot
me an email and I'll be sure you're among the first to
know when finalize plans.
