November 2008 Rod Barbee Photography Newsletter
Greetings
As you may have noticed (or not), I was unable to put out a newsletter last month. But I have excuses. They might even be good. I had knee surgery (everything's fine) and a couple of workshops. Plus I was a bit distracted by the run up to some historic national event that just occurred.
Winery Tour

Well, our first annual Wineries of Oregon's Willamette Valley Photo Tour was great. Couldn't have had better conditions and the photographic opportunities were everywhere. Fall color cooperated, the temperature was pleasant, the folks at the wineries were warm and welcoming and the wine itself was superb.

Dick Badger and I will be running this same tour again next fall, sometime in the latter half of October. Keep an eye out on my workshops page for final dates. If you're seriously interested in this trip, drop me an email and I'll notify you when we finalize the dates.

Photo Guide to Death Valley

If you've got a trip to Death Valley on your horizon, check out my friend Shellye Poster's first book, The Photographer's Guide to Death Valley.
Shellye now literally lives in Death Valley, working for the NPS, and knows the park better than anyone I know. She probably knows it as well as the rangers, many of whom are friends of hers. Her book is available for pre-order at Amazon.

And while your surfing around, check out her website: www.posterphoto. com

R & D Photo Workshops

Keep an eye out for the Winter 2008 issue of Nature Photographer Magazine. Don Mammoser and I took out an ad to promote our workshops. We've also launched a new site specifically for our workshops: R&D Photo Workshops. Check it out. You'll find information on all of our 2009 workshops.

Some of the trips we have planned include repeats of a couple of workshops that sold out fast last year: Yosemite National Park and Colorado Mountains & Flowers. We've also added some brand new workshops. In April we're going to Arches National Park. In June we're doing a combination wildlife/landscape workshop: Triple "D" and Glacier National Park. And in the fall we'll be returning to the mountains of Colorado for the fall colors.

Added Workshops

I've also recently added workshops to the Palouse Region of eastern Washington in June, Olympic National Park in July, and Mt. Rainier National Park in August. These will be through The Nature Workshops. You can find details on those by going to my Workshops Page
Fun With Colors

Test your Color IQ
Here's a fun and interesting exercise to see how well your eyes/monitor can detect changes in color. I tried this a little while back and did pretty good with it. You may have to click on to your region on the first page that comes up.
In Closing

Well you may have noticed a theme with the pictures attached to this newsletter. I kind of liked the wineries, and not just for the photography either. I managed to come back with a few bottles of some of the finest Oregon wines.

If you enjoy wine and are coming out to the Portland, OR area, be sure to take some time to visit the Willamette Valley wineries. You can get a map and more information by visiting www.oregon wine.org
Until next time!
