Greetings
Just getting ready to head back out, this time to the Canadian Rockies for some spectacular scenery and (hopefully) spectacular fall color.

Thanks to all of you who have purchased my new book, The Photographer's Guide to Puget Sound and Northwest Washington. In fact, I'll be needing to order a new supply of books this week.

Luminosity Masks (again)

I recently received an email from Tony Kuyper, the creator of those highly useful Luminosity Masks, telling me that he's updated the actions so that they create a curves adjustment layer along with the masks. This will save you the trouble of having to load the mask and creating the adjustment layer.

Tony's updated a couple of pages of his tutorial to reflect the changes in the actions. To learn more, visit this page, and this page

Saturation Masks

Also from Tony is a new tutorial and a new set of actions. His latest is a tutorial for what he calls Saturation Masks. These are very cool ways of controlling and enhancing saturation in you images. Like the Luminosity masks, these give you a great deal of control over your images. The image to the left shows a before and after. The before is a "finished" image of a scanned slide. I was never really happy with it because I just couldn't get it to look as good as the original slide. By using Tony's masks I was able to easily tweak the image until it had that "Velvia pop" again. Check out Tony's new tutorial here.
Winter wildlife

Last I heard from Jay at Triple "D", there is still room in my Jan. 12-15 Winter Wildlife workshop. Last June, the Triple "D" received two Snow Leopard cubs and they'll be great to photograph in the snow. Last winter, this bobcat gave us a great session.
If you're interested, contact Triple "D" at 406-755-9653 or visit their website
2008 workshops

I'm still working on adding workshops for 2008. Right now, Don Mammoser and I still have openings for Colorado wildflowers in July, Slot Canyons and Monument Valley in Sept., and Zion National Park in late October. You can visit my workshop page for more details.

I do have a few other workshop possibilities in the pipeline. I'll be letting you know, or just keep an eye on my workshops page.

Subaru ad in Outdoor Photographer

If you remember, last month I mentioned a piece I did for Outdoor Photographer magazine's Scenic Subaru Country ad campaign. Well, it's on line. You can see it here.
Be sure to enter to win stuff. I'm guessing I won't be able to enter. Oh well.
Enjoy the end of summer

That's it for now. Back to preparing for the upcoming Canadian Rockies workshop and to making an attempt at finishing the bathroom remodel.
No, really, I may actually get it done.
Someday.
