Greetings
Just finished up a string of workshops and now I can get back to finishing some remodeling projects around the house. I'm actually looking forward to it, strangely enough.
Eyecup and Image Blending

I've placed a couple of things on my website for you. One is the list of parts to make the eyecup that I have on my own camera. This assembly will fit the Nikon D100, D200, D70, maybe more Nikons. It also fits the Canon 30D. I'm not sure about the 20D though.
Click here to go to parts list.

The other is the Photoshop exposure blending technique handout that I give out at workshops. Feel free to print it out for your own use. Click here.

Bailey update

For those of you keeping up with the life of our dog Bailey, she just went in for very minor surgery. She has (had) one dew claw on her right front leg. It kept getting caught on things so we had it removed. Doesn't she look cute with her bandage?
Colorado Wildflowers

Don Mammoser and I are offering a Colorado Wildflower and Landscapes workshop July 8-13, 2008. Based out of Ouray, CO, we'll take two half-day and one full-day jeep tours into the high meadows and mountain landscapes.

We're still finalizing things so the webpage for this workshop isn't quite complete. But feel free to take a look at what we've got so far.

Slots/ Monument Valley-Sept. 2008

In 2008, Don and I are changing things up a little bit. Instead of going to Arizona in April, we'll be going Sept. 23-28. The light will be different and rabbitbrush will be in bloom. Plus, it should be less crowded since school will be in session (in April, you run into families on spring break)

For information and pricing, visit the Slots/Monument Valley page of my website.

Luminosity Masks reloaded (so to speak)

In last December's newsletter I wrote about Tony Kuyper's Luminosity Mask tutorial. Since then I've heard a lot of feedback about the usefulness of the masks and Tony's Photoshop Actions that create them.
Give the usefulness and power of using the masks, I though it time to mention them again. Basically, a luminosity mask is a very complicated selection of an image. With Tony's actions you can target specific tonalities in an image. For instance, you can target just the very brightest of areas. Everything will be masked out except for those areas and any changes you make to the image will affect only those areas.
Or say that you want to lighten only dark shadow areas, there's an action that will target the dark parts of the image. Then you can lighten those shadows without lightening other parts of the image. All in all, a very powerful technique that's very easy to implement.

To read the tutorial and download the actions, visit the tutorial page on Tony's website

In Closing

That's all for now. Keep an eye on the Outdoor Photographer website for a piece I did for their Scenic Subaru Country ad campaign. It should be online in early September.
Plus you can enter to win stuff too.
