June 2007 Rod Barbee Photography Newsletter
Greetings
Sorry about the tardiness of June's newsletter. It's workshop season and I've been a little busy. But I've got a couple of days between workshops so I wanted to get out a quick update.
Book Update

I just got off the phone with my publisher trying to find out where my books might be. Though I've yet to receive my Author's Copies, I was able to place an order for a supply of books. They'll be here in the middle of next week and as soon as they arrive, I'll send copies out to those of you who've already placed an order. Thanks for your patience. If you would like to place an order for an autographed copy of The Photographer's Guide to Puget Sound and Northwest Washington, you can click here and go to my order page.
Adobe Updates

As you may already know, Adobe has released several updates to its CS3 products, which of course include Photoshop and Bridge. Adobe Camera Raw has also received a significant upgrade as well.
If you haven't done so already, be sure to download the latest updates. You can do it right from Photoshop or Bridge by going to Help>Updates

For an idea of the improvement in ACR, go to the Adobe site and navigate your way to the ACR Download page, you'll see a link to the Camera Raw 4.1 Read Me file. Or you could just click here
For an in depth look at the latest Camera Raw (ACR 4.1), take a look at the Photoshop News article here.

Workshop Updates

Dom Mammoser and I have set dates for 2008 workshops. We haven't posted all the details for all the workshops yet, mainly because we've both been busy teaching workshops, but I'm hoping to have the details posted by this time next month.

Just to let you know what we have in mind, here's the current list of what we'll be doing next year:
Triple "D" Mariposa in April
Yosemite in April (following Triple "D")
Colorado Wildflowers at the end of June
Slot Canyons and Monument Valley at the end of September
Zion National Park at the end of October and early November
We haven't set prices yet but they won't be much different than our current workshops. If you'd like to reserve a space in any of these, feel free to send a deposit.
You can visit my workshop page for the exact dates.

Other Workshop Updates

As far as I know, there is still one or two openings for my Olympic National Park workshop next month. This workshop is through The Nature Workshops and you can sign up through them.

Don and I still have three openings for our Canadian Rockies workshop this September. If the past is any indicator, this workshop will sell out. This year we'll be heading a little farther north into the Icefields Parkway.
As usual, we'll also be visiting the pristine Lake O'Hara. Reservations are required to visit Lake O'Hara and we will be making reservations for our group in just a few days. If you want to attend this workshop and want to be able to bring a traveling companion along on our day trip to Lake O'Hara, we'll need to know by the 15th of June. Not to put any pressure on or anything. (we will be making reservations in anticipation of a full workshop)

If you're interested in photographing Cape Cod

Another book in the Photographer's Guide series is being released concurrent with mine. Chris Linder's Photographer's Guide to Cape Cod and the Islands is now available.
If you're planning a trip to Martha's Vineyard or the Cape Cod area, do yourself a favor and get Chris's book. You can order directly from hi s website.

One thing I really like about this series of books (and I'm not just saying this because I've had a hand in two of them) is the "How I Photograph..." section. Each author has a different take on how best to capture good images, and it's this variety of viewpoints and ideas that can impart that "something extra" that just might give you a great new idea or help you break through that technical barrier you've been butting your head against.
Keep an eye out for future titles. Two titles to look for include Don Mammoser's guide to photographing the Colorado Rockies to be released this fall, and Shellye Poster's guide to Death Valley for early next year.

Back on the road

That's all for now. I'm hitting the road again in a few days. I'll have more next month, including, hopefully, updates on the details of next year's workshops.
In the mean time, enjoy the upcoming summer.
